Feeling Comfortable – Also and Especially in the Office
The building seems bright and airy. A lot of glass has been integrated in the building process, the offices are friendly and spacious and on the corridor which separates the offices from each other, you can find a coffee bar inviting you to have a break. Thus, it is a place where one likes to work: Since the beginning of January the company NEM Power-Systems resides in its new head quarters on Sibylla-Merian-Strasse in Recklinghausen-Ortloh Business Park. The administrative building arouse as a result of the cooperation with the company Vollack from Ratingen, an expert for the development, planning and realization of commercial properties – and also the Recklinghäuser Wirtschaftsförderung (promotion of economic development in Recklinghausen) assisted dynamically with making the termination of the project possible within one year.
The structure is a three-storey administrative building which was erected in massive construction incorporating a thermal insulation composite system. In front of the reception area a glass façade extends over all three levels. The particular office units are made accessible by bridges in the foyer which already were called “Catwalk” during the construction process. On approximately 2,300 square meters, the equipment of the building is of high quality and explicitly tailored to the particular needs of NEM Power-Systems – though flexible. “We wanted to have an administrative building for 100 employees.” says Carsten Mönkemeyer, Finance Manager at NEM Power-Systems. Currently, there are 50 direct employees and 15 freelancers working in Recklinghausen – to be able to handle increasing numbers of employees in the future, the administrative building was designed in such manner that it can be modified easily to new requirements. “We wanted to have a building with growth opportunities – something the old location could not offer.” reasons Mönkemeyer the removal. “Furthermore, the new building should be of representative character.” Moreover, from the beginning on, there was an innovative energy concept included to reduce running costs and CO2 emissions: 80 percent of the power demand is covered by the use of air heat pumps.
The project started around turn of the year 2008/2009 with the kick-off meeting called “Phase Null”. In this workshop NEM Power-Systems and Vollack together analyzed the communicational and informational procedures against the background of future developments.
But the role of Vollack is not only limited to the traditional architectural and constructional company. “Our service outruns the consultation of constructional investment and conception – we are the leading expert in discovering rationalization capabilities aiming at possible savings in the long term.” explains Thomas Bretz, General Manager. The subsidiary in Ratingen of the organization group Vollack did not only supervise the project from the conception phase over the authorization procedure up to the realization – moreover, Vollack is investor of the new building. “Our commitment does not finish at hand-over of keys” summarizes Bretz. “We relieve our clients and users during and after the construction period offering services like PR-organization, integration in the Vollack network and the comprehensive assistance beyond the termination of the construction project.”
NEM Power-Systems as well as Vollack are proud of finishing the building in record time. Start of the construction period was in June 2009 – already in December the hand-over of keys took place. But both companies also would like to thank the Recklinghäuser Wirtschaftsförderung (promotion of economic development in Recklinghausen) which assisted with finding a building site tailored exactly to the requirements of the planned building. “It is even possible to extend the premises modularly, if this becomes necessary because of increasing numbers of employees.” says Mönkemeyer.
